Mike ayers
Hey there, I’m Mike. I’m passionate about helping my clients grow and learn through life’s difficulties. I consider it a great privilege to meet my clients, hear their stories, and guide them from their problem saturated stories to one of hope and new opportunities. My personal orientation to counselling is based in family therapy theory (Family Systems, Narrative, EFCT, Gottman,), using scientifically proven techniques as deemed helpful. I am also trained in EMDR; a treatment to help those who have experienced trauma.

Quirks about me
I have a stutter. I developed a slight stutter in elementary school. Every now and then I get caught on a syllable or two. I’ve tried speech therapy and to have it prayed away, but I still stutter. I’m okay with it and after a couple of sessions you probably won’t notice it.
I am divorced. Crazy, right? A guy who specializes in marriage and relationship counselling and is divorced. I'm not proud of this, but I do believe my divorce has helped to shape the man I am today, more empathetic, more willing to listen, and less defensive. It has also made me a better relationship counsellor, as I have the ability to understand both parties and have experienced the pain of relationship failure.
I am kind of a research nerd. I enjoy reading and learning. When things are applicable, I love to teach clients about research I read. Personally, I would rather hear about research than just some person’s theory. Feel free to ask me what I am currently learning about.
